Homo galaxias: Preparing humans for space

Even if we cure all disease, halt dangerous climate change and restore the environment, humans have at most 7.5 billion years left before the sun engulfs the Earth – which is why Christopher E. Mason believes we must get off our planet and colonize space. Speaking at Science Unlimited 2019, he presented the latest data from NASA’s twin study, which are informing a 500-year vision for humans expanding to Mars and beyond.

Christopher E. Mason, Weill Cornell Medicine

Christopher is Associate Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine. His lab develops and deploys new biochemical and computational methods in functional genomics to elucidate the genetic basis of human disease and physiology. This includes creating integrated molecular portraits of genomes, epigenomes, transcriptomes and metagenomes to establish the molecular foundations and genetic defenses for enabling people to survive in space and on other planets.
